It’s a whole Cure Package!
Lalsari and her son Bishal have spent many long stays at The Leprosy Mission’s Anandaban Hospital in Nepal. Although they are cured of leprosy now, their initial Multi-Drug Therapy was required for 24 months! That’s double the usual 12 months of daily medicine it takes to be considered cured of leprosy in most cases. Their leprosy bacterial count was still way too high after one year, so they had to stay on it much longer. They feel so blessed that people like you have been supporting them throughout their extended treatment. Their family could have never afforded this on their own.
Thankfully, through The Leprosy Mission community outreach program, Lalsari (and her husband) were able to work at a nearby paper factory in Kathmandu throughout her treatment.
“I enjoy working here. Now I feel a sense of belonging. I have a place to stay and work,” Lalsari says gratefully.
Sadly, both Lalsarui and Bishal, now cured of leprosy, have been suffering from Leprosy Reaction (an immune system response to leprosy bacteria) and have had to keep coming back to the hospital for further treatment. This has meant taking them both away from their family again.
But Lalsari is hopeful, “I have not lost hope. As long as there is life, there is hope - I can do something to earn a living and take care of my children. I can be happy again,” Bishal’s mother Lalsari says.
Your love and compassion also meant Bishal has received a Gift of Love Educational scholarship. He is now back at school and enjoys learning with his friends.
“I love English and Mathematics class. I want to be a doctor when I grow up so I can help other people affected by leprosy,” said Bishal.
When asked what she’d like supporters to know, Lalsari declared. “I give thanks to God. I would like to say thank you …Thank you so much for caring about me and my family,”
When you add a Gift of Love Cure Package donation to your order, you are helping one person like Lalsari (or Bishal) to be cured of leprosy (hopefully in only 12 months!) and are providing them with opportunities for education or employment. Thank you!
