Your love is transforming dreams into reality for artisans like Radhika
Radhika Basnet lives in Chabahil, an ancient neighbourhood in north-east Kathmandu, Nepal.
Radhika grew up in a family of seven, with two brothers and two sisters. She now manages her household alone, with her son and daughter. Her husband is away a lot of the time with the Royal Guards. That’s left Radhika to support the family through her income.
Radhika is an artisan in the batik section of our Shop partner of New SADLE. Batik is a method of dyeing textiles using wax).New SADLE is a not-for-profit organisation that helps rehabilitate people affected by leprosy. It provides training and employment in the arts and crafts industry.
And when you shop to stop leprosy, that’s where you step in. You support artisans like Radhika.
Radhika’s dream is to create a life where she can support her family, and her children’s desires for a better life. And thanks to the love and kindness you share when you shop, you help women like Radhika make that dream a reality.
The love you share is a practical way to help them fulfil their dreams for themselves.
Radhika’s son is now completing the 12th grade, and her daughter Sandipa studies in a local high school. Her son wants to keep studying and get a degree in computer science. Though her daughter is young, Radhika would like to keep supporting her too so she can reach all her goals.
This is what you do when you shop to stop leprosy.
It has now been 27 years since she joined New SADLE, and her hard work has also won her recognition. She was one of five selected to join the Board of Directors of ARNS. It’s a new organisation set up to support artisans like her.
For Radhika this was a moment of great joy!
God bless you every day, and enjoy shopping with a purpose.
Thank you.
