Do you remember Rhitik? We shared his story with you a little while ago.
Around 4 years ago, Rhitik found an ulcer on his right big toe. It caused him a lot of pain, and stopped him from doing a lot of things. His friends would ask why he couldn’t play with them, and he had to tell them he was injured. It’s been years now since he was able to join in with them, and it makes Rhitik upset that he is unable to play.
Leprosy had infected the bone in his foot. Rhitik travelled to The Leprosy Mission Anandaban Hospital where the doctors were able to confirm he had leprosy and advise on the infection in his foot. He had surgery to remove the infected bone, and given the crucial Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) to cure the leprosy.
We’re excited to be able to share a new update with you. Rhitik has finished his MDT and is now leprosy free!
Early in the year, he faced some setbacks in his recovery, with the treatment not progressing as hoped. In March, he came back to Anandaban for a follow-up surgery. Now he is healing well, and doesn’t need to be on any medication.
